About

Louisa Bristol, a Houston-born artist, draws inspiration from her southern-influenced upbringing and early aversion to prestige and perfectionism. While pursuing a BA in Studio Arts at Furman University, she became fascinated by the intersection of object and performance, as well as style and function. This curiosity led to her first solo show, Impractically Possible (Spring 2018), where she showcased her ability to subvert everyday objects with humor and material juxtaposition.

After a hiatus from sculpting, Louisa worked as a baker and later as an interior design consultant, rediscovering her love for hands-on work and developing a deep interest in decorative spaces and design. Now, as an MFA candidate in Sculpture at SCAD Atlanta, she blends her passion for subversion and symbolism with the iconic neoclassical column. Manipulating the form through humble materials and women’s work, she challenges these patriarchal structures and their integration in public spaces, questioning their influence on society and culture. Louisa’s current work acts as a feminist alternative to neoclassicism, condemning prestige, while reintegrating craft and elevating the ephemeral.
